Winchester's new model for 2023, the Big Daddy Gun Safe BD-5942-36-7E, is designed with 90 minutes of fire protection, a UL RSC Burglar label, and a 65-long gun capacity. This gun safe hits the sweet spot for most gun owners with quite a few long guns. It has outside dimensions of 59.00" high by 42.00" wide by 25.00" deep. Make sure to add 1.5" for the lock, handle, and hinges.
Winchester tested the Big Daddy Gun Safe BD-5942A-36-7E for a proven 90-minute fire rating with an outside temperature of up to 1400 degrees F. They also included the Palusol Heat expanding door seal as a standard feature, which expands to over six times its size when subjected to heat, creating a barrier against heat and smoke. They use UL-rated fireboard protection in the ceiling, walls, and door to achieve this fire rating. The composite door also has a layer of UL-rated fireboard protection behind the accessory door panel. Winchester includes its Lifetime Free Replacement Guarantee in the event of a fire.
Let's talk about the burglary protection of the Winchester Big Daddy Gun Safe BD-5942A-36-7E. It has passed the Residential Security Container (RSC) UL test and features the UL label on the door. It also exceeds the California Department of Justice requirements as well. The body is made with 11 gauge solid steel formed with robotic continuous welds to achieve these ratings and standards.
Other features on the Winchester Big Daddy Gun Safe BD-5942A-36-7A include a drill-resistant, heat-treated 1/4" steel hard plate, titanium disk, and an auxiliary re-locker that keeps the active boltwork locked in place when under attack. They also include 14 - 1.25" solid steel locking bolts to help prevent pry attacks. Five are dead locking, and nine active bolts, including bolts on the top and bottom of the door. There are pre-drilled mounting holes to bolt the safe to a solid surface. This prevents someone from tipping the safe for pry leverage or someone removing the safe from the premises where they have all the time in the world to break into it.
